Determination of the W-mass and the Ww and Zz Cross-section at Lep

In 1996 the center-of-mass energy of the electron-positron collider LEP was increased above the threshold of two times the W-boson mass (MW) which made it possible to produce pairs of W-bosons in ee collisions and thus opened the opportunity for a precision determination of the W-boson mass and measurements of its couplings and decay branching ratios. A detailed review of measurements of the W-boson mass and its couplings can be found e.g. in [1].

We review the precision measurement of the mass and couplings of the W Boson at LEP. The total and differential W + W − cross section is used to extract the WWZ and WWγ couplings. We discuss the techniques used by the four LEP experiments to determine the W mass in different decay channels, and present the details of methods used to evaluate the sources of systematic uncertainty.
